Scouting America Military Family Fee Waiver

Posted on May 18 2026 - 5:16pm

Effective June 1, 2026, Scouting America is expanding access to Scouting for military-connected youth by waiving the $85 national youth registration fee for eligible families. This program applies to youth members only and is available for both new and renewing online registrations. The initiative is funded nationally through philanthropic efforts.

Eligible families include those with current service in the Active Duty, Reserve, or National Guard. The waiver covers only the national youth registration fee, reducing the $85 cost to $0 after the required verification and discount code process is completed. Local council fees, unit dues, optional add-ons such as Scout Life magazine, and processing fees may still apply.

To receive the waiver, families should select “Get Military Discount Code” during the online registration process, complete the verification steps, receive the verification code, and enter it at checkout. Once the code is applied, the national registration fee is reduced to $0.

The $85 fee may initially appear during checkout but will be removed after the verification code is entered.

Important Reminder: New Safeguarding Youth Training Required by May 31

Posted on May 12 2026 - 4:02pm
All registered adult leaders must complete the new Safeguarding Youth Training by Sunday, May 31, 2026.
The previous Youth Protection Training (YPT) fully expires on that date. Leaders who do not complete the new training by May 31 will not be considered eligible to participate in Scouting activities, including meetings, campouts, events, and summer camp, until the requirement has been completed.
With summer camp season approaching, we strongly encourage all leaders to complete this training as soon as possible.
Complete your training today at: my.scouting.org

Scouting America's updated Safeguarding Youth Training (formerly Youth Protection Training) is widely considered a "gold standard" among youth-serving organizations, often surpassing the requirements found in schools and other organizations due to its, comprehensive, mandatory, and frequently updated nature. It is designed to be highly proactive, with stringent, expert-informed, and, in many cases, mandatory, annually refreshed, training for all adult volunteers.
Key aspects of its high standing:
  • Mandatory and Frequent: The program requires all registered adult volunteers to complete training and, as of 2025, requires annual 15-20 minute refresher courses to maintain certification.
  • Expert-Informed Content: Developed with insights from specialists in child safety, psychology, and law enforcement, the training covers,,:
    • Barriers to Abuse: Strict,, policies like two-deep leadership.
    • "S.A.F.E." Framework: Focusing on Supervision, Assessment, Fitness and Skills, and Equipment.
    • Technology & Bullying: Specific training on online safety.
  • High Standards: Independent experts have noted that Scouting's, policies, and training are some of the most advanced, often exceeding typical community safety standards.
  • Rigorous Implementation: The program requires an 80% passing score, and violations can lead to immediate removal, emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach.
This training is part of a broader, comprehensive safety strategy that includes mandatory criminal background checks for all leaders.

Weeklong NYLT opportunity

Posted on May 12 2026 - 4:00pm

Sunday 07-19-2026 to Saturday 07-25-2026

National Youth Leadership Training is an exciting, action-packed program designed for councils to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others. The NYLT course centers around the concepts of what a leader must BE, what they must KNOW, and what they must DO. The key elements are then taught with a clear focus on HOW TO. The skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership.

Annual Health and Medical Record

Posted on Apr 16 2026 - 3:17pm
The Annual Health and Medical Record (AHMR) is a vital document required for everyone in Scouting America. The AHMR is an annual requirement for all participants-both youth and adults - for everything from unit meetings to high adventure treks. Completing this form fully helps to keep everyone in the program healthy and safe. The benefits of an annual health check by your personal healthcare professional are numerous.
Benefits can include:
  • Early detection of health issues which may be identified sooner which can lead to better health outcomes. Healthcare professionals can screen for conditions like elevated cholesterol, high blood pressure, vision changes and so many others. Quick identification can help provide treatment before they can become serious.
  • Preventative care and review of vaccination status which can help to reduce future issues and illnesses.
  • Establishing a baseline of your current health data is important so that future comparisons can be made and monitored.
  • Patient-Doctor relationships are strengthened. The opportunity for you to connect personally with your healthcare professional is so important.
  • Health coaching tailored to your specific needs and health history. Preventing health issues is a key component and meeting with your doctor at least annually begins that process. Accept the responsibility for the well-being and safety of youth under their care.

The AHMR is divided into several sections. When to complete each of the sections depends upon which activity you will be participating.
